What does verified mean?
Verify checks the signature on a registered media capsule. It does not decide who owns the work.
Checking a record
Paste an asset identifier into Verify. No account is needed. This page asks the verification service to check the capsule signature against its signing key.
A valid signature establishes that the signed record has not changed and was signed using that key. It does not prove authorship, ownership, a real-world identity, or the original creation time. A displayed signing time is part of the record, not an independent timestamp guarantee.
Read the outcome
Verified means the capsule signature checks out. A failed signature means the claim remains unverified. Registered but unsigned means there is no capsule signature to check.
Not found means this lookup did not find a capsule under that identifier. Check the identifier and record type; writing registrations do not create media capsules. A service error means the check could not be completed, not that the signature failed.
Checking a file
Verify checks a record by identifier, not a file against that record. Use Detect for an image similarity search. A similar image is evidence to examine, not proof of copying or wrongdoing.
